FDA ISSUES SAFETY ALERT REGARDING CHOKE HAZZARD WITH PHILIPS LIFELINE MEDICAL ALARM PENDANTS

The US Government Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a consumer Safety Alert regarding one brand of medical alarm systems. Other medical alarm system brands may also present a threat if they are not properly designed.

The warning stems from documented situations where Philips Lifeline medical alarm system users have choked to death after being tangled in their nylon neck pendant cord. The neck cord did not have a "breakaway" system designed to release if pulled.

"Philips Lifeline is currently sending letters to its 750,000 customers and has changed the labeling of this product to include a warning against the potential choking hazard."

However, the FDA report did not state that Philips Lifeline is offering a new, safer replacement product designed to prevent or reduce the possibility of choking to any of their quarter million customers.

Instead, they state Philips Lifeline will only provide a "warning" to its 750,000 clients of the potential risk of using their product.
